Bet on the MLBThe Texas Rangers continue their road trip by venturing farther from the Lone Star State to meet the Boston Red Sox tonight for the first of three in Beantown. The first pitch of the series opener in Fenway Park is scheduled for 7:10ET.
The Rangers took two of three from Kansas City over the weekend in Missouri, but dropped the finale 7-6 on Sunday ending their four game win streak. It's been a tough go of it for Texas since the beginning of July, posting a 13-15 won/lost record during that span.
They had just begun to play well again, as evidenced by the four game streak before disaster struck on Sunday. Rangers' first baseman, Mike Olt and shortstop Alberto Gonzales made consecutive errors that allowed the winning run to score for KC in the tenth. Previously, Texas was victorious in the series first two games by the scores of 5-3 and 4-2. The Royals have the worst record in the AL.
The Red Sox woes continued against another pretty bad American League entry, Minnesota, salvaging the last game of a four game set. They dropped the first three to the Twins before emerging victorious off the strength of a two run homer by Adrian Gonzales on Sunday.
Texas (63-44) still maintains a 5.5 game lead over second place Oakland in the AL West. They are 5-5 in their last 10 contests and 29-23 on the road.
Boston and beleaguered manager Bobby Valentine, are now 54 and 55, just a half game ahead of the cellar dwelling Toronto Blue Jays. Like the Rangers they are 5-5 in the past 10 and a pitiful 28-32 at home in Fenway.
Righthander, Yu Darvish (11-7, 4.38 ERA) needs to get back to All Star form for the Rangers tonight. He has 1 win and 3 losses with a 6.82 earned run average in his last 5 starts. Another righty, Aaron Cook (2-5, 5.24 ERA) will start for the first time against Texas.
The Rangers are road favorites at a -$132, while Boston is a +$122. The over/under of 10.5 total runs is on a $115/$100 moneyline.
