Bet on the MLBThe Angels of Los Angeles will fly into the Windy City tonight to begin a three game set versus the Chicago White Sox. The game at U.S. Cellular Field has an 8:10 ET start time.
The Angels began this week in high style by taking the first two from the Rangers in Texas. But things turned on a dime on Wednesday when they entered the bottom of the ninth holding a 7-6 lead and looked forward to putting win number three under their belt.
Unfortunately the Rangers had other ideas and tied the score sending it to extra innings. No problem. L.A. put up a 3 spot in the top of the tenth and was once again ready to graciously accept victory.
Oops! The Rangers refused to accept defeat and scored 4 to win it on an Elvis Andrus walk off single. Then, to add insult to injury, they were demolished by Texas 15-9.
Chicago, on the other hand, came back to win their final two contests against Minnesota in the Twin Cities after dropping the opener on Monday. The ChiSox posted two, 1 run wins Tuesday and Wednesday, 4-3 and 3-2. Jake Peavy pitched eight solid innings in the Wednesday victory.
Chicago (57-47) leads the American League Central division by 2.5 games over the Tigers. They have won 7 of 10 and are 27-22 in the second city.
Los Angeles (57-49) has now fallen to third place, behind Oakland in the AL West as a result of their two losses to the first place Rangers. They are a half game behind the A's and trail Texas by 5. They are an even 5-5 in their previous 10.
Tonight's pitching matchup is an interesting one here for the sportsbook, given the White Sox interest in acquiring Zach Greinke before Tuesdays trade deadline. He of course went to L.A. instead and now will face Chicago in the series opener. The righthander is 9-4 with a 3.39 ERA. Another righty, Philip Humber (5-5, 5.90 ERA) takes the hill for the Sox.
Los Angeles has been installed as a road favorite at -$135, while Chicago is a +$125. The over/under is 8.5 total runs on a $110/$100 moneyline.
