However, he suffered a substantial elbow injury and had to get it surgically repaired, thus forcing him to miss the 2011 season. He has only played in 8.2 innings in his two starts this year and has an 11.42 ERA. Much of this came from giving up eight runs in three innings to the Chicago Cubs last Friday.
Lance Berkman is currently day-to-day with the Cardinals. Berkman strained his calf yesterday. The first baseman is currently batting .348. David Freese is currently fifth in the National League with a .385 average. This includes 13 RBI and three home runs for the third baseman and reigning MVP of both the NLCS and the World Series.
Bronson Arroyo will start for the Cincinnati Reds. Arroyo did not get a decision in either of his first two games this year. He through 7.1 innings of shutout baseball with four strikeouts and a walk against Washington last Friday. He gave up only three hits in that time. He ended up with a no decision after the Nationals won that game 2-1.
