Bet on the MLBThe Windy City Cubs hope to do some successful deep sea fishing the next few days as Chicago travels to South Beach to face the newly named Miami Marlins in their new lime green Marlins Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10ET.
This game marks the return of Miami manager and former Chicago resident as White Sox manager, Ozzie Guillen after serving a five game suspension following his proclamation of admiration for Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
This statement would be inappropriate anywhere, but in Miami its a sin. Another side show could have been on tap in the series had former Cub and Gatorade cooler hater, Carlos Zambrano been scheduled to start, but he'll miss this one after having pitched on Saturday. Another ex Chicagoan and "White Hose" member, Mark Buerhle will take the mound.
Chicago just dropped two of three to St. Louis over the weekend and are 3-7 in this young season. Their top three starters, Ryan Dempster, who gets the nod tonight, Matt Garza and Jeff Samardzja have pitched well. The four and five Chris Volstad, a former Marlin acquired in the Zambrano trade and lefty Paul Maholm not so much. The Cubbies bullpen had some early struggles, but has improved of late.
Miami enters the series after having won two of three from Houston this weekend. They are still just 4-6 for the year. The pitching contest tonight should be a good one with the aforementioned Dempster having two strong outings under his belt this season although he has a 0-1 record to show for it. His ERA is 1.88 and he's struck out 15 in 14 innings of work. An obvious lack of run support is the only reason he's not 2-0.
Conversely, Josh Johnson, starting for the Marlins tonight, has had a rough start coming back from injuries last season. He enters this one 0-2 with an ERA of 8.38 while striking out just five in 9 2/3 innings.
Miami is a strong home sportsbook favorite at -$169 while the Cubs are +$159. The moneyline on the over/under is $115/$100 and set at 7 total runs.
