Bet on the MLBThe Los Angeles Dodgers leave South Beach behind in their current road trip and head north to the Steel City where they will face the Pittsburgh Pirates to begin the week. The first game of this four game set has a 7:05ET start in PNC Park.
Hanley Ramirez was making his first trip back to Miami after being traded away by the Marlins in July. His homecoming was an enjoyable one, with him driving in 2 runs on 3 hits in L.A.'s 5-2 victory on Friday.
The celebration was interrupted by a 7-3 Marlins victory on Saturday in a game that saw Miami netting a season high 5 two baggers. Carlos Lee continues to perform at a high level for the fish after being acquired from Houston by the Marlins early last month. Since joining Miami with runners in scoring position, Lee has a .485 batting average and 25 runs batted in.
However, there was no offense in sight for Miami yesterday, as the Dodgers beat them 5-0 behind an exceptional pitching performance by Chris Capuano who carried a no hit bid into the seventh. He eventually gave up 2 hits in 8 innings of work. Ramirez once again reminded Miami what they traded away by driving in 3 more runs in the victory.
Pittsburgh salvaged the finale of a three game home set against the lowly Padres, by winning yesterday 11-5. They dropped the previous two contests by scores of 9-8 and 5-0.
Los Angeles (62-53) currently trails the San Francisco Giants by a game in the NL West. This series has significance in the standings as well, with the Dodgers 2.5 games behind Pittsburgh (64-50) in the wild card chase, should their pursuit of the Giants fail. L.A. is 12-2 in their last 14 games versus Pittsburgh.
Tonights pitching matchup is righthander Aaron Harang (7-7, 3.80 ERA) for the Dodgers against another righty, Jeff Karstens (4-2, 3.77 ERA) for the Bucs.
Looking at the Betroyal baseball odds, Pittsburgh is a home favorite at -$115, while L.A. is a +$105 road dog. The over/under of 8 total runs is on a $110/$100 moneyline.
