Bet on the MLBIn perhaps one of the biggest make up games in recent history, the Detroit Tigers make a return visit to Chicago Monday afternoon to meet the White Sox. The game was originally scheduled as the finale of a 4 game set last Thursday, before being postponed due to rain. Today's contest in U.S. Cellular Field begins at 2:10 ET.
It is a significant affair, in that this will be the final meeting between these two teams in 2012 with the Tigers trailing Chicago by just 2 games in the AL Central. It appears the division winner will participate in the playoffs while the runner up goes home with the wild card teams coming from the AL East and/or West.
Chicago (79-66) is 6-4 in their last 10 and coming off a weekend sweep of the Twins. They are 42-31 in the "Windy City." Detroit (77-68) is 5-5 in the past 10, but dropped a heartbreaker to the Indians on Sunday, giving up 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose it. The Tigers are 34-40 away from "Motown." The White Sox are 63-75-7 ATS on the year, while the Tigers have gone 58-78-9 ATS this season.
The Tigers will send righthander Doug Fister (9-8,3 .49 ERA) to the mound with the ChiSox countering with southpaw Jose Quintana (6-4, 3.52 ERA). Quintana beat the Tigers one week ago. Against right-handed pitchers, the Sox are 57-45 on the season, and 4-4 in their last 10 games. Against lefties, the Tigers are 23-21 overall, going 0-2 in their last 10.
Detroit is 4-1 SU in their last 5 games, 4-1 SU in their last 5 on the road, but 4-8 SU in their last 12 outside of Detroit. The total has gone UNDER in 17 of their last 24 games. The Sox are 4-2 SU in their last 6 games, but 2-4 SU in their last 6 in Chicago. However, they are 11-5 SU in their last 16 games at home.
Between these two teams, the Tigers are 9-1 SU when playing the White Sox. Detroit is also 15-7 SU in their last 22 games played on the road against Chicacgo.
Detroit is a road favorite at -$115, while Chicago is a +$105. As the favorite, the Tigers are 60-50 overall, and 4-3 in their last 10 games. As the underdog, the Sox are 29-29 on the year, and 1-1 in their last 10. The under/over of 9 total runs is available at a -$125.
