Bet on the MLBThe San Diego Padres lost 5-3 yesterday to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both teams will be taking each other on again today at San Diego's Petco Park.
The Dodgers had a 13-5 advantage over the Padres in last year's games. The Dodgers also had a better overall record in 2011 with an 82-79 record. The Padres had the second worst record in the National League with a 71-91 record.
Cory Luebke will start for the Padres. Luebke was 6-10 in his rookie year last year. He had a 3.29 ERA and had 154 strikeouts in 139.2 innings. He started in 17 games but pitched in 46 games last year. He recently got a contract extension with the Padres.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will be looking to improve this year. The Dodgers have already gotten new ownership to replace Frank McCourt. McCourt had gotten the team in financial trouble following his divorce hearings. Matt Kemp is also looking to excel after the outfielder finished second in NL MVP voting last year. Kemp had a .324 average with 126 RBIs and 39 home runs last year.
The San Diego Padres have two outfielders on the fifteen day disabled list. Mark Kotsay and Carlos Quention, who respectively came out of Milwaukee and the Chicago White Sox, are on the DL as of April 4. Kotsay was .270 with the Brewers last year while Quentin went .254 for the White Sox. One other outfielder, Cameron Maybin, had a good start to the season last night with a 2-4 performance with a home run.
Although the Dodgers appear to have the better team on paper, the Padres are the favorites in the sportsbook at the historically pitcher-friendly Petco Park. The Padres are -128 favorites. The Dodgers have a +118 line. The game also has a six run over/under. A +175 payout is available for successful bets on the Padres to beat the -1.5 spread. A -215 payout is used for the Dodgers to cover it.
